FIREARMS ID CARD

To purchase any type of firearms in the State of New Jersey, a person must possess a Firearms  Identification Card. To purchase a handgun, a person must first apply for a Permit to Purchase a Handgun. Please open the following documents for more information.

The new Civilian Carry Assessment and Range Evaluation (CCARE) protocol has been released by the NJ Attorney General as of September 15, 2023. This live-range training replaces the Permit to Carry Safe Handling and Proficiency Qualification protocol (HQC2- modified) issued on July 21, 2023, and is the required range component pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2C:58-4(g).
